... why live in a shipping container (part 1)

With all the economic and social global changes and the ecological awareness of the people more than some governments (I will not get to discuss this ... now). We should consider some kind of living house choice that allows us to be more autonomous or independent of the system ... banks, energy companies, etc., that are not consistent with our ecological thinking or reasoning.

One option, that I must pay attention, is the modification and reuse of shipping container. Apart of some ideas that i will be adding to my blog, i give you some ideas borrowed from other blogs or websites that you can find in internet (links at the end)

Why live in a ship container ?

It looks that is easy to find and buy (google for sale companies) a shipping containers all over the world, some times, after they have been decommissioned from commercial sea-travel. A shipping containers could be reused or recycled and converting them into your next own desing home to be the perfect fit.

A living house built with shipping containers can be constructed quickly, are eco friendly, relatively cheap and look amazing. From container home plans are often asked why build a shipping container home, so this post summarizes their article of 6 Reasons Why Have a Shipping Container Home.

1. Cost

There are so many and the demand for them is relatively low, buying one is much cheaper than traditional building materials such as brick, steel, and wood. As a home builder save cash on things like; floor, walls and roof. All you would need to add is proper insulation, install electricity supply (solar panel, wind energy), drinking water, water harvesting, and your new home is ready to go. And it's true, you can transport your house like a snail ...

2. Eco Friendly

Recycling them to make your dream home will help clean the environment. Also you are being as eco friendly as possible if you use other recyclable materials and build your home in a way that allows natural sunlight to fuel your home. And use some green energy.

Shipping containers can easily be remodeled, cut, or have items added to them to design them better for the environment and take advantage of the weather around them.

3. Speed of Construction

A shipping container home can be built in under one month. To ensure you are building your shipping container home as quick as possible, need and architect (helping with the design, permits and licenses), and a constructor. It is important you have ideas and research to back up what you prefer or how you want your new home to be constructed.

4. Off-grid living

If you are looking to live ‘off-grid’ (it means - live without being connected to electricity) then shipping container homes can support this. And every day I am more and more with this idea ...

5. Flexibility

The boxy style and the material shipping containers are made form, allow for flexibility when building your perfect home. It gives you the option to stack them or  lay them down side by side and build out horizontally too.

6. Extremely Tough

Shipping containers are made to ship cargo and delicate items across the ocean. With long distance in mind they are made specifically to be durable and extremely tough so the high winds, swirling water, and rough weather does not damage the items inside the container.

They are tougher than many other eco friendly building materials such as earth bags. This gives you the peace of mind, that the home you have put time and money into will endure and keep you safe in extreme weather conditions.

7. They look cool

And finally, in addition to being economical, eco friendly and easy to build, shipping container homes look amazing !!! Because you design your own house :)
